Product Overview
The Builders Lien Act is a useful tool if used properly, however, if misunderstood, it can lead to serious financial and legal consequences. This course will provide participants with the knowledge and background to understand the rights, remedies and processes created by the Builders Lien Act.
Learning Objectives:
- Know and understand the four pillars of the Builders Lien Act: the land lien; the holdback lien; the holdback and the trust.
- Know and understand the processes contained the Builders Lien Act including filing a claim of lien, the issuance of certificates of completion and rights to information.
- Know and understand common misconceptions of how the Builders Lien Act works.

- 2 hours of live online, instructor-led instruction
- Live, Online, Instructor-led training, delivered in a webinar/lecture-style workshop format with as many as 20+ students.
- This course is facilitated on the Microsoft Teams platform. Access information will be provided to you in advance of the training.

Those in the construction industry who want to know and understand the how the Builders Lien Act actually works.
Instructor:
Tyler Galbraith practices in the areas of construction and commercial litigation. Tyler has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia and has been involved in several appeals, trials, arbitrations and mediations. He has acted in numerous builders lien and tender cases, disputes arising from delays, defective work, contract termination, bond claims and insurance coverage. He is the author of numerous construction law articles and other publications, with a focus on tender and builders lien issues.
Refunds or Transfers:
- Five (5) or more business days before the course start date: Full refund of registration fees or can be transfers to a different course date.
- Less than five (5) business days before the course start date and course no-shows: No refunds or transfers to future course dates.

Other Policies:
- Substitution of another member of your company/team is permitted up to the course start date for no additional fee.
- Unless otherwise stated, every person able to see, hear, and observe the virtual course sessions must be a paid participant. Non-compliance of this requirement will result in removal from the course. Refunds will not be issued to students who are removed from the course for non-compliance of this requirement.
- If the NRCA has to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, NRCA will refund the registration fee or, if possible, the attendee may choose to move to an identical session in the future.
